Scottie Memo

The SD Career and Technical Education Department is requiring all schools that receive Federal Perkins funding to survey parents of high school students (9th-12th) regarding their knowledge of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that may be offered at their school.    Philip High School offers classes in two CTE career clusters-Agriculture and Human Services (FACS) which are taught by Mr. Hauk, Mr. Johnson, and Mrs. Brucklacher who all are CTE certified teachers   If you have quetions about what CTE is, check out this web address which provides an explanation-  Your responses will be used as part of the CTE Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CTE-CLNA) for the Badlands Perkins Consortium which the Haakon School District is a member of.  The CTE-CLNA is a process of looking at the current CTE program to discover its strengths as well as perhaps challenges in order to identify opportunities to further strengthen the local CTE program.  It is very important that all parents of Philip High School students participate in this survey no later than Tuesday, March 10, 2020.  There are only 9 questions on the survey and should take less than two minutes to complete.  All responses are anonymous and are submitted via a Google document from the link below.  Thank you for your input!  Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Brucklacher or Mrs. Menzel.

Parents: If you would like your child, grades 9-12, to be able to have a clinic visit without your presence, please fill out a Minor Consent for Medical Care form  (found in the High School office) for EACH high school age child in your care and return it to the Philip Clinic BEFORE their next visit.

Mark your calendar! 7th-12th grade volleyball camp will be Thursday, June 25 & Friday, June 26 this summer.  Forms are available in the high school office.

High School Parents:  Mrs. DeJong sends emails to the high school students throughout the school year about upcoming deadlines and opportunities for high schoolers.  If you would like to be included in these emails, please sign up by emailing

Changes coming to Box Tops for Education:  Over the summer, you'll begin to see some participating brands change their packaging from the traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label. Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. There will be a new app available this summer. The new app will feature state-of-the-art technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online. As we mentioned above, some brands have already started to update their packaging in advance. Until the new app launches, if you see the new Box Tops label on packages, you can use the current Box Tops Bonus App to earn Box Tops for that product. Simply download the app, select the bonus app for the product you've purchased and scan your receipt to earn. If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, be sure to send them to school. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire. Better yet, once the new app launches, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition by clipping the traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products. Thanks for helping our school get extra dollars!

Each Sunday night @ 7:00 PM, Low Lunch Balance Reminder messages through Campus will be sent out to all who have lunch/milk break charges.   Parents:  You should choose your delivery preference in your Portal - the Emergency messages will be school closing (weather related); lunch reminders are General Messages.  Call Pat or Dani if you need help or have questions.

Reminder to Parents

All Haakon School District residents that have children ages birth to 5 years old are encouraged to call the Philip Elementary Office (859-2001) to inform the school of their children’s names, date(s) of birth, age(s), parent’s names, current mailing address, and contact information. This information will be used to contact parents for Haakon School District’s child find/preschool screening that is held every year. With this data, the District will contact parents with information concerning this event. You may call Pat at 859-2001 in the elementary office Monday through Thursday.
