Sunday, October 8 “Race for the Cure 5K”
Image result for breast cancer ribbonJoin with your family and friends to walk or run for breast cancer research!  Register at 12:00 with start time at 12:30!  No medals will be given, just come to have fun and support breast cancer! Push a stroller or push a wagon; run your best or stroll at your leisure! THIS IS A PINK COLOR RUN!  WEAR A WHITE SHIRT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT IN PINK!  There is NO registration fee, but a free will donation!  T-shirts will be available for $15 as well as a table of pink merchandise.  Profits will be donated to SD Susan G. Komen. The race will start and end at the Philip Fire Hall.  Stay for more fun from 2:00-5:00 at the Community Fall Family Festival!
Wednesday, October 11 “Run Pink!” Region Cross Country
Support the Scottie Cross Country team at the Region meet at the Lake Waggoner Golf Course.
Thursday, Oct.12 “Dig Pink!” PHS Volleyball game vs. Lyman
Fans come decked out in pink!  Prizes for the best dressed girl and guy fan!
Serving Game Between JV/V games:  $1.00 for 2 serves!
Prizes provided by Philip FCCLA and Philip FFA Chapters!
Pink Volleyball Raffle: Varsity volleyball players
will autograph a pink volleyball with a winner being drawn
at the end of the third set. $1.00 per chance or 6 chances for $5.00.
Italian sodas ($4.00) are being sold in the Commons Area throughout the night
and at noon during the week from Monday-Thursday.
Pink Bake Sale! Eat at the game or take it home! Goodies by PHS FCCLA members!
Breast cancer survivors in attendance will be given free admission,
recognition, and a “Dig Pink” memento.
Pink Items will be sold during the week and at the game!  Bracelets, fun hats, tutus,  bandanas, magnets, socks, t-shirts, jewelry, and much more!

Thursday, October 12: “Pink Out” the School! 
*All students and staff are encouraged to wear pink to school in support of breast cancer awareness! 
*Students can wear a hat for $2.00!  Money will be collected 1st hour and
paid students will receive a pink ribbon sticker to place on their hat!

Our goal is to raise $1000 by the end of the week!  “Dig Pink” Events are coordinated by the Philip FCCLA Chapter. Thank you to all of the students, staff, athletes, coaches, managers, fans, and community members for your support of breast cancer awareness!
 
*1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
*Approximately 2 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day in South Dakota.
*More than 8 families will lose a loved one to breast cancer every month in SD.

All Junior High girls interested in playing basketball, there will be a meeting in Miss Adrian's classroom after school on Monday October 9th. Basketball practice starts Monday October 16th.

Campus App Update information:   Earlier this year an update was released to the Google Play and iOS app stores. With this update users are no longer required to enter a district id but will now be prompted to enter their district name in state. Please have the user enter "Haakon" into the district name free text field and then select South Dakota from the state drop list. 

With the new lunch system, there are no reminder slips for students who are charging. Please check balances through the Campus Portal.

Philip Elementary Notes

End of Quarter 1 - October 19th - be looking for your child's report card the week of the 23rd.
Picture Retake Day - October 30th - if your child had his /her pictures taken before, just have them bring the packet with them on retake day.  

With the new lunch system, there are no reminder slips for students who are charging.  You may drop off money at the elementary office.  You can check your child's balance on the parent portal (see new portal features above).  If you do not have an account, please see Pat in the elementary office.

South Dakota requires all 6th grade students to have:

  1. One dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine on or after the 11th birthday
  2. One dose of Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine on or after the 11th birthday

Reminder to Parents

All Haakon School District residents that have children ages birth to 5 years old are encouraged to call the Philip Elementary Office (859-2001) to inform the school of their children’s names, date(s) of birth, age(s), parent’s names, current mailing address, and contact information. This information will be used to contact parents for Haakon School District’s child find/preschool screening that is held every spring. With this data, the District will contact parents with information concerning this event. You may call Pat at 859-2001 in the elementary office Monday through Thursday. Thank you for your help and cooperation.

State B Wrestling Tickets are on sale NOW - the PHILIP SCOTTIES ticket order will be mailed January 26th!  Adult All Tournament - $45.00; Student (grades 1st-12th) General Admission all tournament ticket - $25.00 Kindergarten or younger are admitted free, but not necessarily provided a seat in the reserved section without a ticket.

High School Junior Boys - The 75th annual Boys State Convention will be held May 29-June 2 in Aberdeen.

High School Juniors - Apply to attend the free West Central Electric Trip to Washington DC June 8-15.  See Mrs. DeJong for an application which is due no later than February 17th.
